AVFD History
In 1979 members of the Adwolfe community came together to form a fire department for their area. The Smyth County Board of Supervisors gave them the deed to a building that once served as the Oak Point School. They purchased a 1953 Ford Pumper and a used fuel tanker to haul water. The Adwolfe Volunteer Fire Department was chartered on January 1, 1980 with 39 members, 4 of which are still active with the department 30 years later. Five hours after the newly-organized department began operations, the siren screamed from the fire truck as they responded to their first call. Throughout the years, the department has been host to many events to raise the funding necessary to purchase the latest equipment. Every Thursday evening we hold a Bingo game to pay the general bills. Our legendary BBQ chicken dinners can be purchased at Mothers Day, Fathers Day, and during the Annual Summer Funfest.
